Further, NPS said female candidates must not be pregnant at recruitment and during the entire training period. The service also encouraged National Youth Service (NYS) graduates who meet the qualifications to apply to join NPS.
NPS also warned applicants against engaging in bribery or any other form of corrupt practices during the recruitment process.
“The National Police Service recruitment drive is free and open to all eligible and qualified candidates. Engaging in bribery or any other form of corrupt practices with the intent to influence the recruitment process constitutes a criminal offence,” NPS stated.
Interested and qualified applicants are required to download and fill out the prescribed application form available at www.npsc.go.ke, www.nationalpolice.go.ke, www.kenyapolice.go.ke, www.administrationpolice.go.ke, www.cid.go.ke, and www.mygov.go.ke. Applicants can also obtain the forms at Huduma Centres countrywide.
Upon filling the forms, applicants are to present themselves at the designated recruitment centers with original and copies of the national Identity Card, academic certificates and testimonials; other supporting documents, and NYS discharge certificate, where applicable.
This comes after the Employment and Labour Relations Court (ELRC) nullified the recruitment of 10,000 police officers advertised by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC), declaring the process unconstitutional.
In a judgment delivered on Thursday, October 30, Justice Hellen Wasilwa ruled that NPSC has no power to recruit, train, employ, assign, promote, suspend, or dismiss members of the National Police Service (NPS).
Justice Wasilwa noted that the NPSC is not a security organ and therefore lacks the legal mandate to perform recruitment functions reserved for the NPS.
She also pointed out that the NPSC’s functions cannot override or usurp the roles constitutionally reserved for the Inspector General.
“The Commission is not a national security organ under Article 239(1) of the Constitution. Its role is limited to policy, oversight, and disciplinary control, not recruitment or deployment,” Justice Wasilwa ruled.
The court also issued a permanent injunction restraining the NPSC from conducting any recruitment or related human resource processes.
Further, ELRC directed the National Police Service Act and the National Police Service Commission Act to be reviewed to align them with the Constitution
