Two people were killed and several others injured after suspected goons attacked Kasipul Member of Parliament aspirant Boyd Were’s event at Opondo area in Central Kasipul Ward on Thursday, November 6.
In a statement on Friday, November 7, Were extended his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones during the attack.
The ODM candidate accused his main competitor, Philip Aroko, of orchestrating the violence witnessed in Kasipul.
“I come before you today with a heavy heart following the unfortunate incident that occurred during my recent function at the Opondo area in Central Kasipul Ward. An engagement that was meant to bring us together in peace and unity, but which was sadly disrupted by Philip Aroko. In the confusion that followed, we lost two innocent lives,” said Were.
He continued, “I wish to convey my deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their loved ones. No words can ease the pain you are feeling, but please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I mourn with you as a fellow member of this community.”

According to Were the incident occurred after Aroko’s team stormed the venue of his event and directed unprovoked attacks towards him.
He claimed that gunshots were heard from Aroko’s team and which disrupted the function.
The aspirant also alleged that the goons proceeded to Nyalenda, where he had scheduled to meet more voters, and destroyed everything that had been set up, including tents and chairs.
Were emphasized that he does not condone any form of violence, noting that his campaign and my leadership are built on the principles of peace, respect, and service to all.
The MP aspirant termed the violence witnessed in Kasipul as regrettable, saying it does not represent the spirit of the constituency.
He urged Kasipul residents to remain calm, resist anger, and stand firm despite the recent chaos witnessed in the area.
“I call upon all leaders to put the interests of our people first. Let us honor the memories of those we have lost by building a community rooted in love, respect, and understanding,” Were added.
Aroko has, on the other hand, blamed Were, saying he is responsible for the violence witnessed in Kasipul.
“The violence meant to spread fear among our people will not succeed. We refuse to be broken by hatred or intimidation,” he stated.
Aroko and Were are set to face each other in the by-elections slated for Thursday, November 27, 2025.
The Kasipul parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of the area MP Charles Ong'ondo Were.
The late MP was shot on Wednesday, March 30, after leaving Parliament while he was stuck along Ngong Road.
An autopsy conducted by Johansen Oduor, the Chief Government Pathologist, revealed that Were was shot five times, with the bullets entering from the left side of his body.
Meanwhile, the ODM Party has called on security agencies to act swiftly and bring to book the perpetrators behind the violence in Kasipul.
The party has also urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure a level playing ground for all candidates ahead of the November 27 by-elections.
