Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has outlined several unfulfilled national government pledges as President Ruto tours the county.

In a statement on Friday, November 14, Governor Ndeti said the Head of State is welcome to the county but reminded him of unmet pledges he made to the residents.

“As a county government that values cooperation and collaboration for intergovernmental relations in line with the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and the Inter-Governmental Relations Act 2012.

“We hereby bring to your attention the following unmet pledges that are critical to our people’s welfare,” read the statement in part.

Governor Ndeti reminded President Ruto of the government’s Ksh250 million pledge towards the construction of the Mavoko Level 4 Hospital, Ksh300 million for the Masinga Water intake Project in Masinga Constituency and Ksh200 million for the construction of Mavoko Stadium in Athi River Sub-County.

The Machakos Governor also noted that the national government is yet to honour its commitments on the peaceful and fair resettlement of families affected by the Portland land demolitions, as well as the review of high land valuation affecting residents undergoing the KCB land regularisation process in Mavoko.

She went on to list projects that the national government previously promised but remain incomplete.

The projects include the Oldonyo Sabuk Road in Matungulu Sub-County, the Kenol–Mitaboni–Kaani Road in Kathiani Sub-County, Matuu–Ekalakala Road in Masinga Sub-County, the construction of the Yatta Dam and the completion of the Kivandini - Kyasioni Road in Matuu Ward, Yatta Sub-county.

Others include: Cleaning of Athi River, tarmacking of Katangi-Ikombe-Kyasioni-Matuu Road in Yatta Constituency, issuance of title deeds to Njoguini settlement, tarmacking of Kangundo-Mwala Road and the construction of Miw'ongoni Dam in Machakos Town Constituency.

Further, Governor Ndeti urged President Ruto to ensure that future development commitments are delivered within set timelines to prevent prolonged delays

“We espouse that future development commitments be honoured within the implementation timelines so that the people of Machakos and the region at large can start drawing the benefits immediately without having to wait for too long,” the Machakos Governor added.

President Ruto is touring Machakos County on Friday as he continues with his development tour to the Ukambani region.

The Head of State began his tour of the region on Wednesday, November 12, visiting Makueni County.

On the first day of his visit, Ruto commissioned the Kasikeu and Mikuyu Bridges and their approach roads in Makueni County.

He also issued title deeds to residents in Kasikeu and launched the Emali-Ukia Road in Kibwezi West, still in Makueni County.

Speaking during the tour, Ruto announced his determination to ensure the Ukambani region exits the opposition and join his government.

"Ukambani should not remain in opposition. The mistake was mine. I let people come here and waste your time and put the region in the opposition," President Ruto stated.

On Thursday, the President toured Kitui County, where he opened the Kitui East Technical and Vocational Training College in Zombe, launched the construction of the 25km Chuluni–Zombe Road, and inaugurated the Kitui East Huduma Centre.

He also launched the Ikutha–Kanziku–Mutha–Motomo Road in Kitui South, flagged off the KSh 2.3 billion Kitui County Last Mile Electricity Project, and issued 15,000 title deeds to residents of Kamuwongo in Mwingi North.
