Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu could be released from Kamiti Maximum Prison after agreeing to meet bond terms.
Appearing before Magistrate Rose Ndobi on Tuesday, November 18, Waititu, through his lawyer, informed the court that he has secured a bank guarantee.
Magistrate Ndobi ruled that the former governor can be released upon payment of the Ksh53 million bond.
The Magistrate, however, said Waititu’s earlier bond conditions in the hate speech case remain valid.
“This court has no objection to the accused person being released on earlier issued bond terms, subject to him complying with the other terms of the bond issued by the courts. Therefore, he can be released on bond,” Ndobi ruled.

Waititu was sentenced on February 13, 2025, to serve 12 years in jail or to pay a Ksh53.5 million fine.
In the sentencing delivered by Milimani Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki, Waititu's wife, Susan Wangari, was also fined Ksh500,000.
The duo was found guilty of fraud and conflict of interest in a Ksh588 million graft case.
Waititu and his wife had been accused of benefiting from a county road tender through their company in a case that dates back to 2018, when Waititu was the county chief.
On September 16, the High Court dismissed Waitutu’s bid to have his 12-year prison sentence reviewed.
Lady Justice Lucy Njuguna rejected an application filed on 28th August 2025, in which the former Kiambu governor sought to overturn his sentence on corruption-related charges.
Justice Njuguna further directed that the sentencing remain in force until the hearing and determination of Waititu’s appeal.
She also ordered that the appeal be fast-tracked and concluded within 120 days, cautioning that any delays by the defense could result in the case being struck out.
