The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has dismissed a circular claiming that the agency will be analyzing and testing new high-end cars before they are imported and sold in Kenya.
According to the DCI, the circular doing rounds on social media is fake and should be ignored.
Clearing agents who were to be affected by the circular have been advised not to pay attention to its contents.
“The letter hereby attached is FAKE and does NOT originate from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations or INTERPOL. Clearing agents are therefore advised to treat the directive with the contempt it deserves,” DCI tweeted.
The author of the fake letter had indicated that the change in operational procedures had been influenced by the increase in car theft.

“This has been attributed by confirmed cases of tampering of Chassis and Engine Numerals to conceal the identity,” the fake letter read in part.
Some of the high-end vehicles that have been listed in the fake letter include;
• Land Rover, Range Rover, and Discovery
• Mercedez Benz (s)
• B.M.W
• Toyota Land Cruisers, V8, Prado, Toyota pick-up double cabin and Vigo
• All Porsche Models
• All Jaguar models
• Maserati
• All Lexus models
