The Gor Mahia football club has confirmed that four of its players were involved in a road accident on Friday morning while heading to training, but all have been treated and discharged from the hospital.

In a statement on Friday, November 28, the club identified the players as Austin Odhiambo, Fidel Origa, Joshua Onyango, and Felix Oluoch, assuring fans that they sustained only minor injuries.

"Four of our players, Austine, Fidel, Joshua, and Felix were involved in an accident this morning en route to training; all four players were treated for minor injuries at a hospital and discharged. They are all fine," the club announced.

The statement did not provide details about the circumstances of the accident or its location. Still, it emphasized that the players' conditions were not severe and they had received immediate medical attention.

This announcement comes a few days after the club postponed the highly anticipated Mashemeji Derby against AFC Leopards, which was scheduled for Sunday, November 30.

On Wednesday, November 26, Gor Mahia confirmed that the match would be pushed forward due to the unavailability of a suitable venue.

"The highly anticipated Derby match that was set for this weekend postponed due to unavailability of venue; new date to be communicated in the coming days," the club had stated.

The postponement followed a formal communication from Gor Mahia Secretary-General Nick Arum to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), in which he detailed the club's efforts to secure a venue and the challenges they encountered.

"I write to formally notify your office that, as the host team for the forthcoming SportPesa League match against AFC Leopards (Derby), we have been unable to secure a suitable venue for the fixture," Arum wrote in his letter.

"In light of this challenge, we kindly request that the match be postponed to a later date to be communicated by your office in due course," he added.

Arum acknowledged the inconvenience the postponement would cause to various stakeholders, including fans, league officials, and the competing teams.

"We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause and assure you of our commitment to ensuring that the match proceeds smoothly once the new date is confirmed," he stated.

The Mashemeji Derby will officially go down on December 7 with kickoff scheduled for 4pm, following the postponement request.
