Human rights activist Boniface Mulinge Muteti has been charged with publishing false information on social media.
In a statement on Monday, December 15, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspect was arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts.
“Detectives from the Special Crime Unit (SCU) have today arraigned Boniface Mulinge Muteti before the Milimani Law Courts, facing charges for disseminating false information on his X account,” read the DCI statement in part.
According to the DCI, Muteti, on December 6, 2025, using his X account, made a provocative post where he called on the public to seize property owned by politicians.
“If you come across anything owned by politicians, start taking it; these people have never worked anywhere, innovated, or invented anything.

“Everything they own was stolen from Kenyans and must be returned to Kenyans. Arm yourselves and prepare for the coming uprising”, the post read.

DCI said the post was false and intended to incite violence among the public, contrary to Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act No. 5 of 2018.
The activist pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and was granted bail of Ksh15,000.
The case is scheduled for a pretrial hearing on December 30, 2025.
“The DCI reminds Kenyans that spreading false information online is a criminal offence and urges responsible use of social media,” DCI added.
This comes weeks after DCI detectives arrested a popular TikTok content creator for allegedly publishing a video where he claimed that he had been hired to carry out an assassination.
In a statement on October 31, DCI said the suspect, Roy Otieno Odhiambo, was taken into custody after a viral video sparked public concern over its disturbing claims.
"Detectives have arrested Roy Otieno Odhiambo for allegedly publishing false information on his TikTok page.
"In a viral video posted on October 20, 2025, the outspoken TikToker claimed that he had been paid Ksh3.5 million to assassinate a prominent individual," the statement read.
According to the DCI, the arrest was made following comprehensive inquiries into the authenticity of the claims and the individual’s motives for making such statements online.
"Following investigations into the allegations, detectives arrested the suspect at his hideout in Malindi. He has since been processed pending arraignment," the statement added.
