Kenya Railways has announced the return of the Kisumu Safari Train, targeting travelers during the Christmas and New Year holiday period.
In a statement on Wednesday, December 17, the company said the service will resume operations starting Friday, December 19, and will run until January 12, 2026.
"The Kisumu Safari Train is back on track. Enjoy easy travel and that classic rail magic as you journey from Nairobi to Kisumu. Running from 19th December 2025 to 12th January 2026, this festive favourite is the perfect way to travel, explore, and unwind," the statement read.
The route will originate from Nairobi Central Railway Station, with stops at Nairobi Terminus and Maai Mahiu Station, before terminating at Kisumu Station.
Kenya Railways offers two travel classes for passengers: first-class tickets are priced at Ksh 2,400, while Economy-Class tickets cost Ksh 900.

Notably, earlier this month, Kenya Railways announced the deployment of an additional Madaraka Express Passenger Service train to facilitate the surge in travel expected during the festive season.
In an announcement on Tuesday, December 2, the corporation confirmed that the train will operate from Monday, December 8, to Monday, January 5, 2026.
"We will be running an additional Madaraka Express Passenger Service train from Monday, 8th December 2025, to Monday, 5th January 2026, to accommodate the increase in passenger demand during this period," the notice read.
According to the schedule shared by Kenya Railways, the additional Nairobi–Mombasa train will depart the Nairobi Terminus at 09:40 am, arriving in Voi at 1:35 pm before proceeding to Mombasa, where it will arrive at 3:35 pm.
The Mombasa–Nairobi service will depart Mombasa at 4:30 pm, make a stop in Voi at 6:15 pm, and finally arrive in Nairobi at 10:55 pm.
A day later, Kenya Railways announced the resumption of the Nanyuki Safari Train, offering travelers a convenient travel option between Nairobi and Nanyuki.
In a notice on Wednesday, December 3, the agency said the train departs Nairobi at 9:00 am every Friday, making stops in Makadara, Dandora, Mwiki, Githurai, Kahawa, Ruiru, Thika, Mitubiri, Makuyu, Maragua, Murang’a, Sagana, Karatina, Kiganjo, Naro Moru, and arrives in Nanyuki at 4:49 pm.
The return journey starts in Nanyuki every Sunday at 9:00 am, following the same route back to Nairobi, where it arrives at 4:46 pm.
"The Nanyuki Safari makes a return trip to Nairobi every Sunday at 9.00 a.m. Enjoy the scenic views of Kenya's Central Region as it makes its way back to the capital," the notice read.
