Gatundu Member of Parliament Moses Kuria was fined Sh75,000 or serve eight months in jail for flouting Covid-19 guidelines.

The ruling was made by a Kiambaa Court on Tuesday, April 13 2021 after the MP was arrested on Monday night.

 Kuria was arrested at a hotel along the Northern bypass where he was holding a meeting that reportedly contradicts the Covid-19 guidelines issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In a Facebook post, Moses Kuria confirmed the arrested, noting that he was being held at Karuri Police Station in Kiambu.

“Arrested! Held at Karuri Police Station. Kiambu Court tomorrow,” Kuria posted on his Facebook page.

Reacting to the arrest, Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata claimed that Kuria had been arrested for fielding a candidate in the upcoming Juja Parliamentary by-election.

Kang’ata noted that he’ll appear in court and represent Moses Kuria on a pro bono basis.

“I hear Moses Kuria has been arrested for fronting a candidate in Juja. I hear his candidate is strong. Don't worry bro, I am coming to court to offer pro bono services. Since time immemorial, good political things are obtained by weeping, wailing, mourning, and gnashing of teeth,” he tweeted.
