An undisclosed number of KDF soldiers are feared dead after a patrol car hit IED planted by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.
Lamu commissioner Irungu Macharia confirmed the incident which he said took place at Baure.
Reports have indicated that an unknown number of troops were injured in the attack which occurred on Tuesday at 9:30 am.
In January this year KDF serving under AMISOM were killed when a bomb targeted military vehicles went off.
Somalia radio station Garowe Online tweeted about the attack which it said took place near the Somali-Kenyan border.

Following attacks on civilians, Kenya stepped up security on the road that connects northeast Lamu County to the rest of Kenya after al-Shabab terrorists killed three people on a public bus in January 2020.
The previous year in December, the terrorists attacked a bus and killed 11 people among them were 8 police officers. The government moved in to secure the area roads.
Police believe that the terrorist group is a key threat in areas along the coastal region, noting that the targets include security personnel and civilians.
In March this year, the US government issued a warning to civilian airlines flying in the Kenyan airspace to watch out for possible attacks by militant groups.
The US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) said the advisory was due to intelligence that indicated that Al-Shabaab remains in possession of weapons capable of hitting aircraft at low altitudes.
