Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has hit back at Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua after he accused her administration of failing to maintain the Machakos People’s Park.
In a statement on Wednesday, August 19, Governor Ndeti defended the management of the facility, saying the park remains a vibrant venue for events.
The Machakos Governor noted that the park has hosted major events, including the annual Vuka Festival.
“Machakos People’s Park has always been a vibrant venue for events that bring people together while creating opportunities for our local businesses.
“From the annual Vuka Festival to other major events, the park continues to play an important role in supporting traders, suppliers, creatives, and other businesses,” read the statement in part.

Governor Ndeti also said regular maintenance and upkeep is always undertaken in the park.
The Machakos County boss accused his predecessor of misleading the public through what she described as falsehoods, malice, and political propaganda.
“Let politicians not mislead the public with falsehoods, malice, and political propaganda. The facts speak for themselves.
“Our focus remains on creating opportunities, supporting local businesses, and delivering for the people of Machakos,” Ndeti said.
On Tuesday, CS Mutua raised concerns over the condition of the Machakos People’s Park after visiting it.
The Labour Cabinet Secretary said he was heartbroken to see the facility in a dilapidated state.
“During my tenure as Governor, the People’s Park was transformed into a landmark public space and became widely celebrated as the pride of Machakos, a place where families could relax, young people could enjoy themselves, and visitors could experience the beauty of our county.
“Today, sadly, it is a shadow of what it once was. It breaks my heart to see a facility that was built with public resources and great vision allowed to deteriorate to such a level that people now jokingly refer to it as a ‘snake park’,” said Mutua.
The former Machakos Governor argued that maintaining public facilities is as important as developing them.
“Development is not just about launching and commissioning projects. It is about maintaining them, protecting public investments and ensuring they continue serving the people long after the political leadership that initiated them has moved on,” he added.
