The ruling Jubilee Party is facing deregistration after a voter moved to court accusing it of failing to adhere to its Constitution by not conducting grassroot elections.

In addition to deregistration, the man identified as Mr Godfrey Musaina through his lawyer Duncan Okubasu also wants the party denied millions it was supposed to receive from the Political Parties Fund this financial year.

Musaina argues that Jubilee is not operating in accordance to the set laws as it does not hold operational offices in at least 24 counties across the country.

According to him, the party has committed a number of illegalities and as such it needs to be punished. Some of the alleged illegalities include; lack of an internal dispute resolution mechanism as stipulated in the party’s constitution.

He also argues that no organ of the party has ever held a formal meeting as outlined by the party’s constitution.

“Jubilee Party does not keep or hold functional offices in at least 24 counties. It does not comply with the provisions of the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act and its calls for tenders are charade,” his petition read in part as quoted by Nation.

If the petition is successful, then the Registrar of Political Parties will deregister the part.

The petition is set to be mentioned on November 2, 2020.
