4 people have died in two different suspected Al-Shabaab attacks in Mandera County.
Police confirmed the attack on Monday where a suspected Al-Shabaab terrorist was run over by a vehicle they were attempting to hijack.
The driver and turn boy alighted from the vehicle which was ferrying miraa and escaped on foot after running over the suspected militant.
North Eastern police boss Rono Bunei said more personnel had joined in the hunt for the terrorists that have been attacking motorists.
“Locals can help us tame this trend. We urge them to help us in dealing with the menace,” Mr Bunei said.
In a separate incident, the militants abducted a driver and his turn boy working on a road in Mandera South, Mandera County.
They torched the lorry before they escaped towards the Kenya-Somalia border.
This comes amid calls as USA President Joe Biden announced the deployment of more soldiers to Kenya to help fight against the al shabaab militia.
In a letter to Congress, President Biden noted that Kenya was a strategic partner in the war against terror, adding that the special team of soldiers would work with Kenyan troops in combating the terrorists.
"In furtherance of counter-terrorism efforts, the United States continues to work with partners around the globe, with a particular focus on the United States Central and Africa Commands’ areas of responsibility.
"…In this context, the United States has deployed forces to conduct counter-terrorism operations and to advise, assist, and accompany security forces of select foreign partners on counter-terrorism operations....United States Armed Forces are deployed to Kenya to support counter-terrorism operations in East Africa,” Biden’s letter read in part.
