President Uhuru Kenyatta has kicked off the first leg of his long-awaited tour of Ukambani region.
The Head of State arrived in Makueni on Friday where he inspected the ongoing construction of the 688 million cubic metres Thwake Dam which is part of his government's Big 4 agenda.
He was received by senior government officials including Defence Ministry Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma.
President Uhuru will proceed to inspect other infrastructural projects in Makueni and Machakos in the day-long tour.
His itinerary does not involve a visit to Kitui as the President was in the county on June 25th when he launched the Marian Shrine of Our Lady of Protection in Museve.

Also present was Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka who was accompanied by governors Kivutha Kibwana of Makueni, Alfred Mutua of Machakos and Charity Ngilu of Kitui.
President Uhuru's tour of the region was initially supposed to start on Tuesday 6th July before it was cancelled on Monday over fears that the visit would cause a rise in COVID19 cases in the region.
Sources later indicated that constant bickering between leaders from the region could have led to the tour's cancellation.
On Tuesday evening, State House spokesperson Kanze Dena announced that the president would proceed on a scaled version of the tour.
This was after the head of State chaired a meeting between leaders from the region and members of his cabinet.
