Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i has warned media outlets in the country against amplifying political violence, tribalism and hate speech, warning that any media house found guilty will be shut down.
Speaking during the launch of a local radio station in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, Matiang'i noted that in the past, some media outlets have been used to propagate hate, adding that the government will not tolerate such happenings as we head towards the 2022 general election.
According to the CS, the government is keen on ensuring unity and reconciliation in the country, therefore, any media outlet spreading hate risks being shut down.
“We will shut you down in the best interest of this country. It is our duty to uphold peace and we will safeguard the stability of this country jealously without taking sides,” he said.

CS Matiang’i also used the event to condemn rising cases of political violence in the country, noting that anyone found guilty will be arrested and dealt with in accordance to the law.
Making reference to Deputy President William Ruto’s Busia event that was disrupted by rowdy youth, Matiang’i such occurrence will not be tolerated, adding that eight people have already been arrested in connection with the incident.
“No one is allowed to disrupt meetings, we will arrest you and take you to court. Kenyans are now clever they can make a choice on their own,” he said.
