Waiguru's Husband Speaks Out on Her Decision to Join UDA

Husband to Governor Anne Waiguru, Kamotho Waiganjo has spoken out after the Kirinyaga County boss ditched Jubilee Party for UDA on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

Speaking to a local daily, the lawyer supported his wife's decision to join the Deputy President William Ruto-led party.

“I support her 110 percent. That is her prerogative. Respect demands that I support her,” Waiganjo was quoted as saying.

He noted that the decision to switch loyalties was Governor Waiguru's to make.

Waiganjo further dismissed a statement circulating online alleging that he had said he would not support the Kirinyaga governor nor UDA in the August 9, 2022, general elections.

“Due to ideological differences, I cannot join UDA leave alone supporting Ruto. In my family of seven, only HE Ann Waiguru (my wife) support Ruto. Joining Ruto' UDA was her personal decision, and not the position of our family..." the said statement read in part.

Waiganjo dismissed the message, stating that it did not come from him, while also taking note of the glaring grammatical errors in it.

Waiguru joined UDA after a closed-door meeting with DP Ruto at his Karen residence. She was accompanied by Kirinyaga County MCAs.

Over the past month, the governor has been dropping hints that she was headed to the Hustler Nation outfit.

It all started with an interview on Citizen TV where she said, defending her seat on a Jubilee ticket would be an uphill task since the party has lost its huge support base in the region.

“If I ran today on a Jubilee ticket and someone else ran on a different party, even if people felt I had performed, it would be hard to convince them to vote for me,” Waiguru said.

She later met female legislators allied to UDA and said the meeting was part of her listening journey.

Her latest hint was during a recent interview where she claimed that the party to beat in Mt Kenya region is UDA.

“…Where I come from, the Wanjikus are tending to be on the UDA side… So, on my political leanings right now, the ground is significantly UDA in Kirinyaga and in Central Kenya,” she said during an interview with Nation.
