The Directorate of the Criminal Investigations (DCI) has hit out at a tweep who criticized detectives for launching an operation against weed smokers.

On Friday, DCI put out a statement indicating that it has launched an operation seeking to identify and apprehend a group of high school students who were smoking weed publicly.

According to the DCI, 14 students from Fred's Grammer mixed secondary school had boarded a matatu heading to Nairobi, but somewhere along the road, they started smoking weed and drinking.

The matatu driver noticed the smell of weed and urged the students to stop, but they became unruly, with some threatening the driver.

It is at this point that the driver decided to change route and head towards Sagana police station.

“The students who were quick to notice the sudden detour, hurriedly disembarked from the vehicle as it made its way to the station. They dangerously jumped from the windows of the matatu, leaving their half smoked joints, half-filled bottles with liquor and luggage in the vehicle. Following the incident, Detectives at Sagana police station summoned the school’s principal to help them identify the students,” DCI narrated.

Responding to the statement, the tweep identified as Reverend @Wamuhu, urged the DCI to ignore weed smokers and find other criminal activities to investigate.

“Find more worthwhile things to do @DCI_Kenya. Chasing after weed smokers is wasting our taxes,” the tweep tweeted.

In its response, the DCI asserted its authority, stating that “Usitufunze Kazi” which loosely translates to “Don’t teach us work”.
