Kenya has recorded 1,494 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours as the country's total caseload rises to 58,587.

On Wednesday, MoH said the total confirmed cases in Kenya now stands at 58,587 and the cumulative tests are now 717,172.

870 are male and 624 are female. The youngest is a ten-month-old infant and the oldest is 98 years.

The country is also mourning 12 patients who succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of deaths to 1,051.

Currently, there are 1,313 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 5,005 are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

57 patients are in the ICU, 25 of whom are on ventilatory support and 27 on supplemental oxygen.

Another 95 patients ar separately on supplementary oxygen of who 77 are in the general wards, while 18 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

This comes in the backdrop of a statement by President Uhuru Kenyatta who said that a surge in infections at the county level could attract intercounty lockdowns.

"Positivity rate which had dropped to 4% in September has now shot up to 16% in the month of October which is four times what it was in September. October has been the most tragic month in the fight against Covid-19," he stated.
