KPLC said a power transmission line sustained a fault on Tuesday evening leading to the blackout.

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has clarified why some parts of Nairobi are facing a power outage.

In a statement, the company said a power transmission line sustained a fault on Tuesday evening leading to the blackout.

"A 220Kv Suswa-Embakasi power transmission line that evacuated a power to Athi River, Embakasi and City Centre bulk substations has developed a sustained fault this evening," KPLC said.

According to the power company, areas affected include parts of Nairobi and Machakos County.

"This has resulted in a power outage affecting g section of the Nairobi Central Business District, Embakasi, Kilimani, Hurlingham, Syokimau, Athi River, Kitengela, Mlolongo and adjacent," the statement added.

According to KPLC, they are working in earnest to solve the fault and restore electricity.

The company has also apologised to Kenyans for the inconvenience caused.

"Kenya Power technical teams are working jointly with counterparts at the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) to locate the fault, rectify it and restore Supply as soon as possible. We regret the inconvenience caused," it said.

This comes minutes after the company assured Kenyans that the nationwide blackout that occurred on Tuesday mid-morning had been sorted.

"The power supply has now been restored to all parts of the country except Garissa, Mwingi and Kitui which are expected to be back by 6 pm," KPLC said.

The blackout happened after towers collapsed on the Kiambere-Embakasi high voltage transmission power line.
