Former Gem Member of Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo is reportedly on the verge of landing a crucial role in the push for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) referendum

Former Gem Member of Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo is reportedly on the verge of landing a crucial role in the push for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) referendum.

Over the weekend, Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and other government officials met leaders from the Nyanza region and reportedly settled on Jakoyo Midiwo and Kisumu County Government Head of Protocol Bob Madanje to lead the collection of BBI signatures in the region in collaboration with Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o.

The meeting passed that county governors will play the lead role assisted by selected leaders who’ll be unveiled later this week.

Reports on Standard indicate that National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohammed, former Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru, Kisii Woman Representative Janet Ong’era and Sarah Kilemi are some of the leader chosen to play critical role in the referendum push.

Raila statement on collection of BBI signatures

Last week, Odinga announced that the collection of signatures for the Building Bridges Constitutional Amendment push will commence this week.

Addressing the media outside his Capitol Hill offices, Odinga noted that from this week, the BBI team will traverse the country to collect the one million signatures that will later be submitted to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as stipulated in the Constitution.

“We will be doing the launch of the signature collection sometimes next week. We want that exercise to be done as soon as possible so that the matter can be handed over to the electoral commission, and then we can move towards the next phase of a referendum.

“This matter, as already mentioned before, should be concluded by latest April next year. That is where we are as far as BBI is concerned,” he said as quoted by Citizen.
