President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, ordered a nationwide crackdown on boda boda operators.
The Head of State issued the directive following the assault of a woman by boda boda riders at Forest Road, an incident that attracted sharp criticism on the sector.
While marking the International Women's Day at the Kenya School of Government, President Kenyatta noted that the incident was unfortunate, and directed law enforcement in the country to begin a countrywide crackdown on boda boda riders.
He criticised players in the sector for being unruly, harassing women, instead of treating them well since they are their very own customers.
President Kenyatta also announced that all boda boda operators in the country will have to be re-registered afresh.

The Head of State took a swipe at a section of politicians, noting that they may claim the directive is intended to hurt small scale businesspersons, but that is not the case.
"We want to support the bodaboda business but it is not a license for a boda boda to do drive by shootings. And most definitely it is not a license for you to strip and remove dignity from our women.We will re-register all bodabodas.
"Wale wanataka kupiga siasa wapige," President Kenyatta stated.
He reiterated that the boda boda sector must be regulated to ensure sanity in the business across the country.
