ODM leader Raila Odinga has broken his silence moments after the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) summoned him over his ‘madoadoa’ remarks in a past rally.
Speaking at an Azimio La Umoja rally in Kisumu on Thursday, the former Prime Minister insisted that his remarks were taken out of context.
“Kule Wajir candidates wote walikuwa Azimio. Wakasema Wajir ni Azimio zone. Sikumaanisha ya kwamba hatutaki kabila ingine kule Wajir. Kwa hivyo kama kuna mtu yeyote ambaye hakunielewa vizuri, ambaye ameona makosa, mimi naambia yeye pole sana.” Raila stated.
The ODM boss further maintained that his camp will not discriminate against anyone along tribal lines.

“Madoadoa nilitumia kule Wajir ni tofauti na ile ya Eldoret. Kule walikuwa wanasema Mhindi arudi kwao. Lakini mimi nilisema Wajir hakuna chama ingine. Hapa Kisumu hakuna madoadoa. Kisumu ni Azimio zone,” the ODM leader added.
Raila elicited mixed reactions after his remarks in Wajir, with Deputy President William Ruto’s allies calling for his arrest.
Meru senator Mithika Linturi previously used the remarks at a rally in Eldoret where DP Ruto was in attendance.
Linturi was later arrested but later released on bail. However, the senator breathed a sigh of relief after the court dropped his case after the prosecution failed to present charges against him.
