A fuel tanker on Saturday, March 12, exploded in Muhonje, Kakamega along the Webuye-Eldoret highway.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the number of casualties as a result of the accident is yet to be established.
The police also urged motorists to take caution while approaching the area.
"We wish to nofity the public of a road traffic accident involving a petrol tanker which has burst into flames at Mukhonje area, near Lwandedi, along Webuye - Eldoret road.
"Our officers are at the scene. We urge motorists and onlookers to exercise caution. The number of casualties as result of the accident is yet to be established," police said.
In an update by Kenya Red Cross, emergency services from the Redcross Action Team, Kakamega County Fire Brigade and police are already at the scene.
