Former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita on Thursday confirmed he was in the race to be Machakos County’s next governor after picking his running mate.
At a consultative meeting in Machakos, Mr. Waita maintained that he was still in the race after picking Machakos County Speaker Florence Mwangangi to be his deputy.
“We are not pulling out. By August 10, the only person who will be named governor-elect, waiting to be crowned, is Nzioka Waita,” Mr. Waita told Citizen TV.
This comes after he on Wednesday hinted on dropping his ambitions on the seat after lengthy consultations with some leaders.

It was alleged that Mr. Waita was bowing out of the race after having an interest on a political seat in Nairobi.
“There comes a time when a man must consult widely, reflect consciously, sacrifice opportunities and make decisions that can enhance that can enhance his political destiny," Waita said on Wednesday.
However, the ex-State House Chief of Staff dispelled the rumors on Thursday intimating that he had begun his race to the Machakos State House.
Mr. Waita will run for Machakos County’s top job a Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) ticket. The party is one of the affiliate parties of the Raila Odinga led Azimio La Umoja Movement.
