A relative of the deceased disclosed that the young man had no record of any known ailment.

A university student has lost his life in Busia County during the ongoing police recruitment drive that kicked off nationwide early Thursday.

The 26-year-old Kenyatta University student collapsed and died after making five rounds in the recruitment field.

A witness intimated that the deceased slowed down as he went around the field and collapsed before the recruiting officers reached out to offer him first aid.

“We were called in to help and have him rushed to the hospital, unfortunately, he had died,” the witness told Capital News.

A relative of the deceased disclosed that he was a third-year student at the Thika Road-based university and that he had joined other youths to try his luck in the exercise.

He, however, said that the young man had no record of any known ailment.

The deceased’s body was ferried to the Busia County hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

This sad report comes even as the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) on Wednesday stated that it would not consider degree holders in the police recruitment drive.

The police commission maintained that salary disputes by police graduates had necessitated the directive after previous incidents.

“We have indicated in the advertisements placed in various media platforms that we are recruiting police constables with a minimum qualification of D+ in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education [KCSE] exam, and this remains the case because the advertised positions are in a specific job group,” a NPSC official stated.
