The Kalenjin Elders sent the message to ODM leader Raila Odinga on behalf of the community.

Kalenjin elders on Tuesday sent their apology on behalf of the community to ODM leader Raila Odinga after the stoning of his chopper on Friday 1 in Uasin Gishu County.

In a press briefing, the elders heavily condemned the incident stating that it does not hold the image of the community.

They maintained that even the leaders from the Kalenjin community are men of integrity and it is impossible that they could have hired youths to stone Raila’s chopper.

“We would like to apologize to the former Prime Minister on what happened. We’re deeply sorry and as elders we’re sorry about it and we don’t take it lightly,” the elders stated.

They also called for speedy investigations to bring the perpetrators in the incident to book.

“We also say that those who took part, the rule of the law should take its course and proper investigations be made so that whoever did the same should face the full force of the law,” they added.

The elders further stated that they have been holding meetings with Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago and the County commissioner Stephen Kihara to discuss peace initiatives in the county.

Their apology comes even as Soy MP Caleb Kositany and his Kapseret counterpart Oscar Sudi recorded statements with the DCI over the incident

MPs Junet Mohamed (Suna East), Babu Owino (Embakasi East) and John Mbadi (Suba South), who were in the company of Raila during the incident, have also been summoned.
