A parliamentary aspirant in Uasin Gishu county has gotten the attention of many after taking part in the rival party's nominations to choose a candidate he will be facing off with in the August 9, general polls.
This was after one William Cheraisi, an aspirant who will be running for the Ainabkoi constituency seat on the National Vision Party ticket, presented himself at a polling station and cast his vote during the ongoing UDA party primaries.
From the photos shared online, Cheraisi, who will be the flagbearer of the late Nichola Biwott's NVP party in Ainabkoi, successfully cast his vote for UDA aspirants some minutes past 9 am on Thursday, April 14, a move that set some tongues wagging.
Many wondered why a candidate from a rival party could be allowed to take part in UDA party nominations, when he will be expected to compete with the same candidate he is nominating in the August 9, general polls.
"How can he be a member of two parties? party primaries are for UDA members, Kwani what happened to UDA register?" posed one user.
"Then how is he voting in UDA primaries??? Baba should also be voting today" added another
It was, however, established that the party is using IEBC registers for its nominations and not party membership registers as earlier reported.
Among the key aspirants competing for the UDA party ticket in the Ainabkoi constituency includes the former Legal and Constitutional Affairs chair Samuel Chepkong'a, Chris Muktain, and Terry Chebet Maina among others.
The winner will face off with Cheraisi and the incumbent MP William Chepkut who will be running on an independent ticket in August.
This happens when most parts of the country faced logistical nightmares delaying the start of the polling process in most polling stations.
