Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga has promised free education from primary to university level if elected in the August polls.

Speaking during the manifesto launch on Monday, June 6 at Nyayo stadium, Odinga said it was possible to offer free quality education. 

"We will provide free education. And by free we mean our children will have access to free and quality education from primary to the university," he stated. 

According to the Azimio manifesto seen by Nairobileo.co.ke, Odinga promises to Improve the working conditions, welfare, and training of teachers. 

"Ensure that all unemployed trained teachers shall be employed in order to improve the quality of education for our children," part of the manifesto reads. 


The Azimio manifesto proposes an aggressive scheme to ensure all children have access to education. 

"The AZIMIO programme will be an aggressive scheme to ensure that all, not some of our children, get rightful access to quality education. We will deploy motivated teachers to deliver quality education that prepares our children to succeed in a modern global world.

"No child shall be left behind. We commit employ all qualified teachers who are currently unemployed. This programme shall also deploy an affirmative action initiative dubbed, the Baba Kubadili Plan, for marginalized areas especially Northern Kenya. A multi-agency body will spearhead the process to ensure no young Kenyan is locked out of the education system," the manifesto reads in part.
