Editor's Review

NMG said that it was a temporary measure and they were not doing away with the subscription model.

Nation.Africa has temporarily halted its subscription requirement for its readers and all articles will be free, Mutuma Mathiu, the Editor-in-Chief has announced.

In an email to its subscribers on Thursday, June 23, Mutuma stated that it was the civic education of Nation to provide audiences with information ahead of the August polls.

From today, you will read all our stories on Nation.Africa absolutely free. As you know, the election is only two months away and Nation has a civic obligation to provide the information that Kenyans need to make informed decisions in exercising their democratic choices at the ballot.

"The election is looming. The bulk of the content we will publish going forward will be election-related. Our duty at this point is not to make money or register people, it is to ensure that good, unbiased, accurate, and relevant information gets to the widest cross-section of people possible," part of the email read.

However, Mutuma said that it was a temporary measure and they were not doing away with the subscription model.

"How will this work? We are not doing away with our payment and registration system. We are just pausing it for the electoral season.

"Those who have accounts and have paid for access have no fear; the balance of your paid-up period will be preserved and restored after the election," he stated.
