There was a mix-up in the distribution of ballot papers.

Voters in Rongai constituency will have to wait longer before they choose their next MP.

Nairobi Leo has learnt that the the exercise  was suspended following a mix-up in the ballot papers.

The papers were mixed up with those of Kuresoi South. It is not clear when residents will vote.

The suspension comes a day after the IEBC suspended gubernatorial elections in Mombasa and Kakamega counties. Pokost South and Kacheliba constituencies were also affected.

IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati said the move followed a mix-up in the printing of ballot papers for the seats.

"Ballot papers for Mombasa governor position have wrong gubernatorial candidates' pictures and their images printed on them," Chebukati said.

"Ballot papers for Kacheliba constituency have wrong member of National Assembly candidates' pictures and their images printed on them," he added.

He spoke on Monday at the Bomas of Kenya during a press briefing ahead of Tuesday's elections. 

"As a result, elections for the respective positions have been suspended to a later date that shall be announced to a later date through a gazette notice," Chebukati stated.
