The Rarieda MP-elect has bowed out of the race to be the National Assembly Deputy Speaker.

Rarieda MP-elect Otiende Amollo has bowed out of the race to become the next Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.

In a statement on Wednesday, September 7, the ODM lawmaker said that he withdrew his candidature to back former National Assembly Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim.

Amollo stated that his decision was guided by the interest of his political coalition thanking all those who had supported him for the position.

“I had expressed interest for Deputy Speaker National Assembly. In the interest of our coalition & collegiality, I withdraw in favour of Hon Farah Maalim for Deputy Speaker National Assembly. Thank you all who supported me,” Amollo stated.

This comes even as Kenya Kwanza fronted Uasin Gishu Woman representative Gladys Shollei for the national Assembly Deputy Speaker position.

Shollei on Tuesday asked that the elected Members of Parliament to support her candidature as she pledged to work to deliver an efficient 13th Parliament.

“My congratulations to all elected Honourable Members of the National Assembly. I humbly request for your support as I seek the Office of Deputy Speaker. I pledge to work with all to deliver an efficient 13th Parliament,” she said.

The National Assembly is expected to have its first sitting on Thursday, September 8 during which the MPs-elect will be sworn into office.

The lawmakers will later elect their Speaker and Deputy Speaker before kicking off the business of the house.
