The CS nominee for the Cooperatives and SMEs docket said his net worth stands at KSh 993 million.

Cooperatives and SMEs CS nominee Simon Chelugui has broken his estimated net worth.

Appearing before the National Assembly Committee on Appointment, Chelugui disclosed his net worth stands at KSh 993 million.

The current estimation, he said, is an increase from the KSh 796 million estimation of his net worth in 2018 when he first made it to the Cabinet.

Constituting the financial net worth are a dairy plant, a host of residential and rental houses in Nairobi, and a venture into large-scale farming.

"I have a dairy plant, I have houses, the residential places I live in now, rental houses in Nairobi. I also practice farming, I keep cows for dairy and beef," he told the committee stewarded by Speaker Moses Wetang'ula.

Chelugui is the only CS from President Uhuru Kenyatta's Cabinet who has been retained by the Kenya Kwanza administration.

He served as the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Water.

He is on the last bunch of nominees appearing before the committee reviewing their suitability to hold the respective dockets in which they have been appointed.

Others to be vetted on Saturday are Salim Mvurya who has been proposed to head the Mining docket, Florence Bore (Labour), and Mercy Wanjau (Secretary to the Cabinet).

Besides the declaration of their respective financial net worths, the nominees are also required to present before the committee their original IDs, academic and professional certificates, as well as letters of clearance and compliance from EACC, KRA, HELB, DCI, and CRB.
