Kenya Power has recorded an impressive result surpassing new customer target with over 31,000.
In the Company’s Operational Performance Report for Quarter Two Financial Year, 2023-2024 released on Tuesday, February 20, by December 2023, a total of 256,206 new customers were connected to the grid against the target of 225,000 customers.
Speaking during the launch of the financial report, Kenya Power Managing Director Joseph Siror noted that the utility firm plans to extend the connectivity in every part of the country.
"Our aim is to connect 4 million additional households by 2030 towards the achievement of universal access to electricity," Siror announced.
As of February 2024, the electricity transmitting company had 9.5 million customers across the country.

Besides connecting new customers, Kenya revealed that it had successfully installed 67,000 smart meters targeting small business enterprises and the Meter Data Management Infrastructure.
Smart meters provide real-time monitoring and remote reading, offering consumers the ability to effortlessly track and get a clear picture of their electricity consumption patterns.
Despite the significant progress made by the utility company, different stakeholders raised issues over different connection challenges and power outages.
Responding to their concerns, Siror revealed that the company has adopted a proactive strategy to fix the issues.
"We are determined to address the power distribution constraints in a proactive manner. The time for making knee-jerk reactions when making decisions is over," Siror explained.
In terms of the cost of electricity, Siror maintained that the country was on the right path to providing affordable power to users both local and large-scale consumers.
"There are many components that go into the final cost of electricity. In Kenya, the power generation mix is predominantly green, resulting in competitively priced power compared to other regions in the continent."
