Mwende Macharia has announced her exit from the Standard Group-owned Radio Maisha after 14 years of service.

The lively radio presenter shared the news via a Facebook update on Saturday, August 17.

She attributed her long stay at the Mombasa Road-based media house to her outgoing colleagues, supportive management and a loyal fanbase.

"I hereby wish to announce my departure from Radio Maisha and Standard Group at large, effective immediately. I would like to thank Standard Group management for the opportunity to grow my career and brand over the past 14 years.

Most importantly, I would like to extend my gratitude to my fans all over the country and beyond for holding down the Queen. You guys are the best, and I really do appreciate you," she said.

Mwende hinted at her relocation to another station, albeit not revealing her next stop.

She said she would soon unveil her new home, where she would continue with her broadcasting undertakings.

"With that said, i can not wait to share with you my next home so that I can continue doing what I do best. I am beyond thrilled already," she said.

Throughout her stay at Radio Maisha, Mwende stewarded the Connect Show she co-hosted with Clement Mlekenyi alias Clemmo.

The program majored in the new generation music and issues pertinent to the Kenyan youth.

Mwende's exit came amid the struggles of the larger Standard Group to pay its journalists.

Weeks back, radio staff downed their tools, demanding their dues piling in months.

The matter caught the attention of the Kenya Union of Journalists (KUJ), which called on the company to honour its employees' contracts.

KUJ observed that the staff were owed salary arrears running into seven months.

"We are in solidarity with the staff who are on strike as we mobilize their colleagues in other departments to join them for maximum impact," remarked KUJ secretary general Eric Oduor at the height of a previous strike undertaken by the journalists at the media house's radio department.

Standard Group PLC has constantly been undertaking what it termed restructuring to fill the financial short fall.
