The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga has secured the extraction of Kevin Kang'ethe to the United States of America.
In a statement on Monday, September 2, the office of the DPP disclosed that Kang'ethe was extradited on September 1 after being linked with the murder of his girlfriend, Margaret Mbitu.
"Kang'ethe left Nairobi on September 1, 2024, and is set to face the charge of murder at Suffolk Superior Court in Pemberton Square, Boston, on September 3, 2024. The suspect flew to Kenya in 2023 after allegedly killing Margaret Mbitu and was on the run until he was apprehended by the Kenyan authorities to face the law," the ODPP stated.
According to DPP Ingonga, he was committed to offering any support needed by the US for the prosecution of the suspect.

"I wish to reiterate my commitment and support whenever needed to the United States of America and in particular the prosecution team as they proceed with the next phase of the case. To the family of the late Margaret Mbitu, we offer our support and prayers," Ingonga remarked.
On February 7, 2024, Kang'ethe escaped from Muthaiga Police Station after his initial arrest in January.
However, the suspect was later re-arrested in Ngong, Nairobi, on February 13, 2024.
Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina ruled that the suspect be extradited to the U.S. after stating that the prosecution had adduced sufficient factual and legal basis to warrant the extradition.
Kang'ethe is accused of killing his girlfriend in Massachusetts, USA, on October 31, 2023, by inflicting multiple stabs on her face and neck before leaving her body in a locked vehicle.
