She was facing charges of misappropriation and misuse of county resources, nepotism, and related unethical practices, bullying, vilification, and demeaning of other leaders.
“The result of the division indicates the Senate has not upheld any of the charges. Therefore, the Senate has failed to remove the governor by impeachment. The governor accordingly continues to hold office,” Senate Speaker Amason Kingi announced the Senate’s decision.
This was the second time Governor Mwangaza survived an impeachment at the Senate since she was elected in August 2022.
Faith Kipyegon
The Kenyan athlete in June set a new world record in the 1500 meters category clocking 3:49:11 in the Florence Diamond league, a week later, she broke the 5000 meters world record at a time of 14:05;20 in Paris France.
She was awarded a cash prize of Sh 5 million and a house worth Sh 6 million by President William Ruto for breaking the two world records.
Kipyegon was named Female World Athlete of the Year in track events moments before she was conferred with the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH) at State House Nairobi.
Hanifa Farsafi
The journalist-turned-environmentalist topped social media trends in 2023 after she pushed Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to clean up Nairobi, especially the Pipeline, Dandora, Githurai, and Korogocho areas.
Following her activism, Governor Sakaja addressed the matter but Hanifa was not impressed saying the intervention made things worse.
“Johnson Sakaja made a mess out of it and abandoned it. I have run out of words, I have genuinely ran out of words," she wrote.
Hanifa also used her X platform to pressure the Garissa and Isiolo county governments to fix recurring problems affecting locals.
Anne Njoroge
Anne Njoroge came to the limelight in November after she was reportedly kidnapped after recording a statement at the DCI headquarters over a dispute on a furl consignment worth Sh 17 billion.
Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chrichir in a statement accused Njoroge of forging documents to take possession of 93,000 metric tonnes of diesel said to have emanated from Saudi Arabia.
The dispute also drew the attention of Azimio Leader Raila Odinga who observed that Njoroge does not look like someone who has Ksh 17 billion.
