The duo had been sent to protect the company's 600 litres of diesel when they conspired to steal it for their gains.

Detectives from the DCI's Operation Support Unit are detaining two suspects in fuel theft.

The duo is accused of siphoning 600 litres of diesel belonging to the Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (KUSCCO).

They drew fuel from the company's reservoirs and stored it in plastic jerrycans, ready for illegal disposal.

Acting on an intelligence report, crime busters from the Operation Support Unit intercepted a Mitsubishi pickup Reg No. KBL 054D at KAA Estate near to Wilson Airport.

They were in the company of the pickup driver ferrying the loot when the DCI sleuths intercepted them.

Identified as John Kioko and Michael Kioko, the two KUSCCO employees were deployed to safeguard the Sh 107,460 worth of fuel drawn from Mbagathi Way Total Petrol Station.
The two KUSCCO employees conspired with the pickup owner (far right) to loot the company's fuel.
The fuel was to be taken to the company's offices in Upper Hill for use in the generators.

They await arrangement.

This came days after the DCI announced the dismantling of a syndicate that illegally siphoned fuel and sold it to unsuspecting Kenyans.

The detectives camped in the Sindindi area along the Kisumu-Busia Road, where the bootleg oil business had picked up.

According to the investigative agency, the suspects capitalised on tankers involved in accidents.

They had pumps and a reservoir into which they would store their loot awaiting sale.
After noting the illegal business, the DCI deployed a team from the Operation Support Unit to pursue the suspects.

The suspects had pumps to siphon fuel with.

The aim of the operations, the DCI said, was to curb the siphoning trend that has time and again occasioned tragic infernos, and to eradicate the sale and distribution of adulterated fuel.

A group of suspects were arrested as the DCI cleared their station of operation.
