Kidero will serve as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya National Trading Corporation (KNTC) for 3 years.

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has been appointed to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya National Trading Corporation (KNTC).

In a gazette notice dated Friday, November 15, President William Ruto designated the former governor to serve as the board's chairperson for a period of three years.

Kidero takes over from Hussein Tene Debasso whose appointment was revoked as a result.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, president of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Evans Odhiambo Kidero to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya National Trading Corporation, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 15th November 2024. The appointment of Hussein Tene Debasso is revoked," the notice read.

KNTC is a state corporation established in 1965 under the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry.

Its primary role is to act as a procurement agent for the government, focusing on stabilizing consumer prices and enhancing trade.

Additionally, it operates extensive warehousing and logistics services to ensure efficient distribution of goods across the country.

Kidero served as the first governor of Nairobi County from 2013 to 2017.

After losing his re-election bid in 2017, he encountered multiple legal issues including corruption charges linked to his time as governor.

In 2019, Kidero and ten others were charged with graft concerning irregular payments of Ksh 68 million to a legal firm.

In a notable political shift, he transitioned from being an ally of Raila Odinga to joining Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Kidero's relationship with Raila became frosty after ODM gave Gladys Wanga a direct party ticket to vie for the Homa Bay gubernatorial seat.

"We have chosen UDA because it’s a party that cares for the people unlike ODM which focuses on demonstrations daily,” Kidero said after defecting to UDA.

Kidero ran as an independent candidate for the Homa Bay County governorship, ultimately losing to Wanga.
