President William Ruto has announced that the transfer of certain national government functions to county governments will be gazetted on Friday, December 20.
Speaking on Monday, December 16, during the National and County Governments Co-ordinating Summit at State House, Nairobi, President Ruto disclosed that he had already received a notification regarding the gazettement from the Attorney General.
The Head of State further noted that consultations were underway the ensure that the remaining devolved functions are all transferred.
''I am informed by the Attorney General (AG) that this Friday, the functions that have already been agreed upon will be gazetted and transferred to counties. Those that remain, there is extensive consultations between the two levels of governments under the Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC) so that we can get things moving,” President Ruto stated.
The president affirmed the government will complete the transfer of all devolved functions to county governments without delay.

He directed the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC) to systematically identify and transfer the requisite budgetary and other resources tied to the functions in the next financial year.
"I am pleased to report that the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC) has finalised the unbundling, delineation, and transfer of functions in line with my directive during our last summit.
"I now direct the committee to take the next step of systematically identifying and transferring the requisite budgetary and other resources tied to these functions in the next fiscal year," President Ruto remarked.
Meanwhile, the Head of State emphasized that intergovernmental relations were essential for effective and sustainable devolution and the success of the national socio-economic transformation agenda.
"While the two levels of government are distinct, they are also interdependent. Our relationship must, therefore, be built on consultation and cooperation. It is in this spirit that I have consistently engaged with county governments and their leadership, both formally and informally, consulting Governors to align our strategic agendas," he added.
