Former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has proposed a strategic investment in the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway to solve the unending traffic jam challenge.
In the last 24 hours, Nakuru-bound motorists and travellers from Nairobi have had difficulty, spending hours on the busy highway due to a heavy traffic snarl-up.
Photos on the highway shared on social platforms indicated disorderliness despite efforts by traffic police officers to smoothen the traffic.
According to Kuria, due to its nature, the road needs dualling to allow easy flow of vehicles on both directions.
Via X, Kuria, who currently is the senior advisor in the Council of Economic Advisors at State House Nairobi, suggested a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to expand the highway to accommodate more vehicles at once.

He, however, was concerned that such a proposal would be met with objections from ever-suspicious Kenyans, as was the case with the Adani Group PPP arrangement aimed at facelifting the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
"The mess in the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway is proof that we need new approaches to Infrastructure Development. The Rironi-Mau Summit Dualling MUST be carried out on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis. Sadly, the same people stuck in the gridlock today will also oppose the dealing using a Private Partner," he said.
Meanwhile, Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) deployed its officers to complement the police in controlling the traffic.
It further gave motorists alternative routes to avoid the gridlock.
"The Authority, with the support of traffic police, are at hand to give the necessary guidance and traffic control for a smooth flow in a bid to ensure you reach your destinations safely and without delays," KeNHA said in a statement.
The alternative routes are;
1. Naivasha-Njabini-Olkalou-Dundori-Lanet-Nakuru.
2. Flyover-Njabini-Olkalou-Dundori-Lanet-Nakuru.
3. Ngong-Suswa-Narok-Mau Narok-Nakuru.
