Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wedtangula has asked ODM leader Raila Odinga to drop planned demonstrations and let President William Ruto discharge his mandate in a peaceful environment.
His remarks come even as the ODM leader has denied planning demos insisting that his first meeting to be held at Kamukunji is a consultative forum.
"The maandamano they're talking about is theirs, not ours. On the 12th of December, at Jacaranda Grounds, we will have our own celebration of our independence and our Republic," Raila said.
But while addressing a campaign rally in Bungoma on Tuesday, Wetangula asked Rail to shelve the planned meetings adding they are dragging the country back.

"This thing you are talking about holding protests is dragging our country down. We were with you my brother Raila in demonstrations, we were teargassed and I once lost a shoe on University Way, but we never succeeded," Wetang'ula said.
He reminded the ODM leader how together they demonstrated against President Uhuru Kenyatta's regime saying they never benefited from such.
"Be calm for the country to move forward. If truly you think there is illegitimacy, then you don't believe in our institutions including the courts of law."
"Kwa sababu koti ilimua ukasema umekubali. Kama umekubali peana mshindi nafasi afanye kazi yake, wewe ukitaka ngoja 2027 bado tutaonana mundu khu mundu," he said.
Raila's first meeting with his supporters is scheduled for this Wednesday, December 7.
