Deputy President Rigathi Gachangua has cancelled his development tour of Bomet County scheduled for Wednesday, July 19 and Thursday, July 20.
The cancellation of the tour comes even as the Azimio La Umoja coalition lines up major protests countrywide in a show of defiance against President William Ruto.
While announcing the cancellation of the visit, Bomet governor Hillary Barchok said the DP had an urgent matter in his diary.
" Following a joint consultative meeting between Bomet leadership and the office of the Deputy President, the scheduled development visit by His Excellency the Deputy President Hon Rigathi Gachagua that was to take place on 19th and 20th July 2023 in Bomet has been postponed," Barchok said in a statement.
"This is due to an unavoidable urgent matter in the DP's diary. Nevertheless, it will allow ample time for the various organs in the country to prepare adequately and ensure everything is set before welcoming the Deputy President at a later date to be announced."

In the same statement, Barchok hinted that the cancellation could have been fueled by the Azimio protests after he asked Kenyans to keep off the mass protests.
Barchok asked the people of Kericho County and Kenyans at large to exercise restraint, maintain peace and refrain from engaging in any form of violence and destruction of property.
The Azimio coalition has announced a plan to hold demonstrations for three consecutive days to force President Ruto's regime to bow to its demand.
The coalition wants the Finance Act 2023 withdrawn, cost of living lowered and reconstitution of the IEBC addressed for them to call off the protests.
