Sifuna said their absence during the grilling of CSs at the Senate and National Assemblies is deliberate.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has explained why MPs allied to ODM leader Raila Odinga have kept off parliamentary sessions where CSs are summoned to answer queries regarding their respective ministries.

The ODM SG in a statement on his X platform said the CSs' appearance in the Senate and National Assemblies is not anchored in law and as such, the Azimio MPs keep off.

"The minority side does not attend sessions with CSs because we believe they are there unconstitutionally. We filed a reference to the High Court and are awaiting judgment this month. So it's not absenteeism. It’s a principle," Sifuna stated.

Sifuna was responding to a concern by a social media platform that wondered why many Azimio MPs were conspicuously missing when CS Kithure Kindiki appeared before the house to answer to questions.

"Work on absenteeism. I was worried yesterday. Several Senators, especially from the minority side, were absent during a session with CS Kithure Kindiki," Captain Kapkorir said in a tweet he tagged Sifuna.

The directive to have the CSs appear at the National Assembly and Senate is one of President William Ruto's campaign agenda ahead of the 2022 Elections.

The President said the move will enable state officers to be accountable for their actions and provide a road for the implementation of state projects.
