Five people have been confirmed dead in a grisly road accident along the Nairobi- Mombasa road that occurred on Tuesday night.
Several other people are reported to have sustained injuries in the accident that occurred in the Kambu area in Kibwezi, Makueni County.
Kibwezi Sub-county police commander Peter Maina while addressing the press said the bus was heading to Mombasa from Nairobi when the tragedy occurred.
Maina said the bus first hit the tractor before colliding with an oncoming trailer.
"The five people died on the spot. Those injured were taken to the Kibwezi Sub-county Hospital and the Makindu Sub-county Hospital," Maina said.

Over the last four years, NTSA has expressed concerns over the increasing number of accidents involving boda bodas.
At least 2, 124 lives have been lost through road crashes from January 1 up to June 25, 2023.
This, according to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), is a decrease of 137 compared to last year's record for the same period.
Some 2, 261 people were recorded to have perished in a similar period in 2022.
Pedestrians led the fatalities where 729 people died as a result of road accidents.
Motorcyclists followed with 561 deaths, 403 passengers, 196 pillion passengers, 189 drivers and 46 pedal cyclists have died since the year started.
According to the 2023 Kenya Demographic Health Survey, at least 4,690 people lost their lives on Kenyan roads in 2022.
The year recorded 21,757 road accident casualties. This represented a 5.5 per cent increase from the 20,625 deaths reported in 2021.
The number of those who lost their lives in road crashes in 2021 was 4,579.
The number of victims who sustained serious injuries in 2022 was 9,935, a decrease from the 10,050 who were critically injured in 2021.
The number of those who sustained slight injuries in 2022 rose by 1,136 to 7,132 from 5,996 reported in 2021.
