The ranking county staff had received a Sh100,000 deposit and was waiting for the remainder before the EACC officers arrested him.

The Head of Land Survey in Kericho County Government is being detained after detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested him over corruption.

Ismail Kipngeno Koskei was apprehended after the EACC officer fed on a tip that he was demanding a Sh200,000 bribe to allow a land transaction.

"The complainant, a resident of Anaibkoi Sub-County, refused to succumb to the bribe demands and instead sought help from EACC," said the anti-graft body.

According to the EACC, the complainant's plot, registered in the name of their late mother, had been incorrectly combined with Brooke Market County Council of Kipsigis.

The EACC officers arrested the suspect who had already received Sh100,000 from the complainant.

They (the complainant), therefore, sought to have the Kericho County's Land Survey office separate the plot from Brooke Market.

Koskei would, however, demand the aforesaid amount to release the new title.

He was found with the first tranche of the money; Sh100,000.

"Koskei was nabbed in his office in Kericho after he received Kes.100,000 as the initial deposit for the demanded Sh200,000 bribe," said EACC in a statement.

The suspect was taken to the EACC South Rift Regional Offices in Nakuru, where he recorded a statement before his detention at the Nakuru Central Police Station.

He awaits arraignment to face charges related to corruption.
