The suspects strived to box the DCI officers into being lenient to a suspected car thief.

Police are detaining two men who allegedly tried to bribe officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for them to forego a case involving a suspected car thief.

The duo comprises 38-year-old Eugene Kiprop Kipchirchir and Hillary Kiplangat Kibet, 40.

According to the DCI, the two men claimed to possess crucial information about the suspected car thief who had been on the run.

The men were reportedly ready to part with KSh 179,000 to shield a friend, a suspected car thief.

Their goose, however, became cooked when they diverted to convince the officers against pursuing the suspect.

They reportedly fished out Sh 179,000 to motivate the investigators to give up on the manhunt for the foregoing suspect.

"Their yarn quickly unravelled when they attempted to grease the officers' palms with the hefty bribe to keep the fugitive from facing justice," read an excerpt of the DCI statement.

They were immediately apprehended and subsequently interrogated, helping the officers get the whereabouts of the car theft suspect.

"They spilt the beans, leading the officers to swoop down on a parking lot at Dondez restaurant and nab the main suspect, Rashid Oyondi Nyanuba, who was hiding inside an Isuzu double cab with the license plate KAW 092Y," the DCI sad.

Now a trio, the men were booked at the Kondele Police Station ahead of their arraignment.
