Stephen Oloichoki, who reportedly operated alone, would accost business owners, strike them with a blunt object, and make away with their valuables.

A man linked to a series of violent robberies and murders in Narok Township has been arrested.

In an update on Thursday, October 31, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Stephen Oloichoki also known as Musa Sopia was apprehended by detectives based in Narok following months of scrupulous manhunt.

"The suspect, who is a jailbird and has been in prison confines for 15 years until his release on March 2024, was cornered and arrested while in possession of his weapons of choice; a dagger, a sword and a Maasai rungu," DCI said.

According to the DCI, Oloichoki who reportedly operated alone would accost business owners, strike them with a blunt object and make away with their valuables.

The investigating agency noted that most victims would die from being struck on the head by the suspect.

"But by the stroke of luck, one of the suspect's criminal activities was captured by a CCTV camera as he attempted to break into a shop. He aborted the mission on spotting the cameras, but not without blessing his night with several crates of bread delivered to the next shop. The footage was circulated among security agents," the DCI added.

In his most recent attack, DCI said Oloichoki struck dead a person on Monday, October 28, in Narok South, prompting an operation that led to his arrest.

"A security operation was swiftly launched which saw Oloichoki arrested. He was in the same clothes worn in the CCTV footage. (His race was no longer amazing).

"The suspect has since confessed to several attacks and showed investigators places where he sold the valuables stolen from his victims, leading to the arrest of three more suspects namely; Timothy Manyara, Samuel Kibutu Ngongo and John Ndung'u Wanjiru," DCI further stated.

Oloichoki who had been sentenced to life in prison for a violent robbery but released after 15 years is implicated in six deaths committed between April and October 2024.
