Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspect linked with a spate of robbery incidents along a section of Nairobi's Southern Bypass.
In a statement on Friday, January 3, DCI disclosed that the suspect, Martin Otieno, used a massive stone to obstruct traffic before reportedly carrying out the roberries.
"In response to reports of a string of robbery incidents plaguing motorists on the Southern Bypass in Nairobi, a dynamic initiative spearheaded by the Regional Criminal Investigations Officer, along with officers from DCI Lang'ata and DCI Dagoretti, has significantly ramped up patrol activities in the area.
"This coordinated effort led to the swift arrest of Martin Otieno, who brazenly attempted to rob unsuspecting drivers yesterday along this notorious stretch of road," DCI stated.
The directorate explained that in one incident, a vehicle collided with a stone deliberately placed on the road by the suspect while traveling toward Ngong Road, forcing it to stop.

The suspect then emerged from his hiding spot near the scene and allegedly confronted the vehicle's occupants, robbing them.
"While on patrol, officers were alerted by a loud crash. Rushing to the scene, they discovered that a Volkswagen, bearing the registration KYW 690, had collided with the stone as it drove toward Ngong Road.
"A family inside the vehicle recounted the terrifying ordeal: after hitting the stone, the suspect emerged from a nearby thicket, where he immediately confronted them robbing them of their valuables," DCI remarked.
The directorate noted that police on patrol responded quickly to the incident before apprehending the suspect.
The suspect is in police custody and will be arraigned on Monday, January 6.
