Lawyer Nelson Havi has declared his support for former Chief Justice David Maraga to run for the presidency.
In an interview on Thursday, February 11, Havi said he would not be renewing his political allegiance with President William Ruto as their "contract" comes to an end after five years.
He went on to endorse Maraga, who served as Kenya’s Chief Justice from 2016 to 2021, for the country’s top seat.
"My contract with William Ruto was for five years, and as the five years come to an end, I do not propose to renew it. I have said we need to have David Maraga as the next President of the Republic of Kenya, and I say this forthrightly, and nobody will fault me, nobody has insurance on me, they know it. I speak the truth and for the good of the people of Kenya. Let us do the right thing," he said.

Maraga has maintained a low profile since his retirement in January 2021.
However, in recent months, he has increased his presence on social media, using platforms like X to express concerns over national issues.
Notably, he has condemned the killing and abduction of young Kenyans, which he described as a moral crisis demanding urgent attention.
"The killing, maiming, and abduction of young Kenyans has put to serious test our institutions. It demands a moral response. If we are truly a people sworn to the sanctity of life and the dignity of every citizen, then we must stand bold in the truth of our Constitution.
"I condemn the killing, torture, and abductions and call for the immediate release of the youth still held unlawfully. Our politics must never again be this heartless and uncaring," he said.
In his New Year's message, Maraga also called on the government to address challenges witnessed in vital economic sectors including education and health.
"The cries of pain and outrage we saw this year were sparked by the erosion of basic dignity and economic mismanagement. We must urgently address the decline in vital sectors such as education and health.
"We must reset the economy to create decent jobs for our youth and restructure our tax regime in order to guarantee fairness and sustainability of the tax burden. This is possible. The country has done this before and can do it again," he added.
Beyond his online engagements, Maraga has been active offline, meeting with young activists to discuss governance, the rule of law, and constitutionalism.
