Senator Sifuna was on his way out of Senator William Cheptumo's funeral when he met the group of youth.

Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna has shared his encounter with a section of the youth in Baringo.

Sifuna was coming from the funeral of deceased Baringo senator William Cheptumo on Saturday, March 1, when he granted an audience to the small public.

In brief interactions, the Baringo residents used Sifuna as their envoy to ODM leader Raila Odinga.

They were filmed asking Raila not to entertain any pact with President William Ruto.

"What do you want me to tell Baba (Raila)?" Sifuna posed.

"This is Baringo, and we ask Raila not to work with President William Ruto. He should not get into the government," they answered Sifuna.

There are reports that Raila was being wooed into the government with additional Cabinet slots, perhaps to pacify him after the defeat in the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship election.

Ruto seems to be warming up to Raila as he eyes his re-election in 2027.

On his return to the country after a break following the AUC events in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Raila was hosted by Ruto at State House Mombasa, where they hinted at a plan to work together.

Raila, however, said he would be traversing the country to consult his supporters regarding his next political move.
ODM leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto at State House Mombasa flunked by other leaders.

In the recent past, Ruto's chances of securing a second term have been diminishing by the day as the public grows its disdain against his regime.

He is faulted for, among other things, sanctioning oppressive tax regimes, remaining lukewarm to the efforts to end abductions and extrajudicial acts, and failing to actualise most of his campaign promises.

Having fallen out with his former deputy Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached late 2024, Ruto has been seeking to popularise himself in Raila's traditional voting bases, perhaps to compensate for his dwindling popularity in Mt Kenya, a region that played a significant role in his 2022 victory.
